Sometimes the hardest part of cardmaking isn’t the supplies — it’s just knowing where to start.
That’s what this project is really about. One simple idea, one starting point, and the freedom to take it in different directions without pressure, rules, or overthinking it.
I used one sketch and created two different cards — one clean and simple, and one with more layers, color, and dimension. Same base layout. Same idea. Two totally different looks.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s possibility.

The Idea Behind the Sketch
A sketch isn’t a rulebook. It’s just a starting place.
It’s something to work from, not something to copy perfectly. You can rotate it, flip it, change the shapes, change the size, change the orientation, simplify it, or build it up. There’s no right way to use a sketch — only the way that works for you in that moment.
Sometimes creativity flows easily. Sometimes it doesn’t. Having a simple layout idea to start from takes the pressure off and gets your hands moving again, which is usually all you actually need.

Simple Card Version
This version is clean, quick, and uncomplicated. It’s the kind of card you make when you want something that looks finished and thoughtful without needing a lot of time, steps, or mental energy. It’s great for everyday cardmaking, quick projects, and those days when you just want to sit down and create.
Products used: Mixed Up Patterns DSP, Strawberry Slush cardstock, a white card base, In Color embellishments, adhesive, dimensionals, and the Reason to Celebrate stamp set.
Stepped-Up Card Version
Same sketch. Same base idea. Completely different feel.
This version adds more layering, bolder color, dimension, and texture. Circles replace squares, contrast becomes part of the design, and the layout feels more dynamic without needing a brand-new concept.
Supplies: Splash of Sparkles DSP, Timid Tiger cardstock, black cardstock, 1 1/4″, 1 1/2″, and 2 3/8″ circle punches, dimensionals, and the Reason to Celebrate stamp set.

Why This Style of Creating Matters
You don’t need more supplies to be creative. You don’t need more techniques. You don’t need more rules.
Most of the time, you just need one good starting point and the permission to play with it.
One idea can become a lot of different things depending on your mood, your energy, your supplies, and the time you have. That’s where confidence grows — not from copying, but from experimenting and adjusting.
