Diamond fun fold heat embossing

Do you love fun folds? Sometimes, the challenge is in creating them, or figuring out how to replicate them. This diamond fun fold looks hard, but it’s really quite easy. With just three score lines, you’ll be rocking the fun folds in no time!

This fun fold can be kept simple by using cardstock and patterned paper for the focal point and stamping a sentiment. I stepped it up by heat embossing and watercolouring the piece of white cardstock. To get the look, I stamped Detailed Dogwood (a free Sale-a-Bration stamp set from 2024) with Versamark and then used with white embossing powder. The next step was to add the watercolour- Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist and Lost Lagoon were mixed with water and then applied with a water painter.

Heat embossing is easy to master- you just need a heat tool, embossing powder, and slow-drying ink. Stamp your image, and add heat to melt the powder. Check out other heat embossing projects here. Stampin’ Up!’s heat embossing products will get you on your way quickly.

My top tips for heat embossing success:

  • Use an embossing buddy, especially when embossing on dark cardstock to prevent powder from sticking where you don’t want it.
  • Keep your heat tool moving to prevent scorching of the paper or embossing powder.
  • Let your paper cool for a few seconds before handling to prevent fingerprints.
  • Use a little more adhesive than you normally would because the paper will be warped from the heat, and extra adhesive helps ensure it will lay flat.
  • If applying ink over an embossed image, use caution if you’re using heat to dry it.
